It started with a dream.

Back in 2015 David and I started Arte for Elephants with one goal, raise money for captive elephants around the world.

 

Fast forward 11 years and despite every twist and turn, including the devastating loss of the world's best co-pilot, AFE is still going strong.

Now as we approach AFE's 12th year, it's time to reach for the biggest dream yet, something that David and I started talking about back in 2012!

 

Introducing-Mama Tembo's RetreatKenya's first vegan micro retreat & farm animal sanctuary!

 

FIRST, THE GREAT NEWS- We've purchased a piece of land only 45 minutes outside of Karen, Nairobi (where many of you have stayed during your visits). Fencing is going up as we speak.Since Mama Tembo's will be 100% off grid, bids are coming in for solar, rain water collection/storage and a bio-digester (for waste management).

 

THE ASK: Our plan is to put a recycled shipping container home (2Bed/2Bath) on the land which will allow us to raise money by renting it out as an AirBNB while at the same time strengthening our partnership with the Kenya KSPCA by allowing KSPCA volunteers to stay at Mama Tembos for little to no cost. But that's just the start! Once the structure is complete expect to see vegan stays pop up at charity auctions in support of our sanctuary friends, like Chimp Sanctuary NW or Elephant Nature Park!
